Apologies to all listeners who were unable to hear the first part of last week's interview with Roger Woodward - and thanks to those who stayed tuned to hear his very interesting discussion of his career, collaborations and music.
This week we have another exciting international music star in the Phonic FM studio.
Clive Stevens is a saxophonist (and flautist) from Bristol, who began his career with Eddie Jackman and Ronnie Ross here in the UK. He studied music at Berklee College of Music in Boston. (Not a typo! - The University of Califormia, Berkeley, is quite a different thing!)
Clive added flute at the San Francisco Conservatory - (Roger Woodward, by the way, is Professor at the School of Music and Dance {College of Liberal and Creative Arts} at San Francisco State University)
Folowing further flute studies at the Guildhall School of Music and US Naval Academy of Music, Clive studied saxophone with Lee Konitz and composition with William Allaudin Mathieu (Director of the Sufi Choir at the San Francisco Conservatory).
Clive has released eight studio albums with Capitol Records, and a book of poems called 'Stardust Transmissions'.
On Friday 24 August, Clive performed with Sam Richard's Improviser's Orchestra at St Mary's Church in Totnes - and later for a live broadcast from the Soundart studios at Dartington Hall. Contrary to reports at the time, photos from St Mary's are not permanently lost, and will appear soon. (However, Clive is not included in that set!)
Clive also played saxophone and flute with 'The Chill Acoustic' (featuring David Sawyer's Sanzakord, Russell Frampton's guitar and the vocal accompaniment of Tony Dale) - at the launch of an art exhibition in memory of Daphne Cartwright on Friday 7 September 2012.
Clive and the Chill Acoustic will be in action again at 'Gloss' art gallery in Barnfield Crescent this Thursday, 21 March, for the launch of 'Exeter Open Studios 2013' which will continue all weekend and feature the art of David Sawyer and his wife Christine Sawyer - not to mention a dozen more artists in Exeter and Topsham.

We MUST find time during the programme to mention this week's visit by the English Touring Opera. 'Cosi fan Tutte' (see above) is already SOLD OUT. Tickets are still available, however, for the other two Italian operas. 'Simon Boccanegra' by Giuseppe Verdi is being performed on Thursday and Saturday, while Gaetano Donizetti's 'Siege of Calais' will be showing on Friday evening.

Tuesday/Wednesday: Paul Higgins directs Mozart's 'Cosi fan Tutte' ('All women are the same'), where two men pretend to leave for war, only to return and attempt to seduce each other's lover - to test their fidelity. Watch out for Richard Mosley Evans (who was such an incredible Gianni Schicchi back in March 2011) as the scheming Don Alfonzo.
Thursday/Saturday: ETO Directors, Michael Rosewell and James Conway, have brought together a huge orchestra and choir for Giuseppe Verdi's 'Simon Boccanegra' - the story of a pirate who returns to Genoa to become its leader, and to attempt to unite Italy. Craig Smith is Simon Boccanegra.
Friday: Between the two performances of 'Boccanegra' there is a single performance of Gaetano Donizetti's 'Siege of Calais'. Cozmin Sime is Edward III at the gates of Calais, demanding surrender, while the citizens within negotiate their survival - or self-sacrifice. Eddie Wade is the Mayor of Calais, while Helen Sherman plays his son Aurelio (originally a castrato rôle - one of the last), and Paula Sides (Bubikopf, 'Emperor of Atlantis', November 2012 - and Emilia in 'Flavio'/Atalanta in 'Xerxes' in November 2011) is Aurelio's wife, Eleonora.
