Marshall Allen brought the 'Sun Ra Arkestra' to the UK four times this year (Manchester, Bristol & London in March; Tanworth & London in June; London, Edinburgh & Crickhowell in August; London & Nottingham in October).

On Sunday evening, 13th December, Soundart Radio Presenter (and self-proclaimed Sun Ra aficionado) Sam Richards will be convening an equivalent orchestra of talented and well-known local musicians to bring the spirit of Sun Ra to Totnes.

Saxophones will feature prominently, of course, but also electronic instruments and vocalists will combine to recreate the distinctive sound of the unique 'Arkestra', founded by Le Sony'r Ra (formerly Herman Blount from Alabama, but claiming to have come from Saturn) in Chicago in the 1950s.

Sam's South Hams saturnalian simulacrum will provide a perfect opportunity to discover Sun Ra's Afrofuturism and find out what it's all about.
