for major charity concert at Exeter Cathedral

On Saturday 8 March a major concert is being held at Exeter Cathedral to mark the centenary of the Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI).  The event is also in support of ABF The Soldiers Charity.

The concert will feature the renowned Exeter Symphony Orchestra (ESO) conducted by Brian Northcott, and the Exeter Philharmonic Choir (EPC) directed by Andrew Millington, and soloists for the evening are Alison Burnett, Julian Rippon, Thomas Hobbs and Juliet Curnow.

Invited guests from across the country will be attending this celebratory concert which will feature the cream of Devon musicians.

The ESO has its origins in the late 1930s and became an independent enterprise in 1989, and is one of the leading classical orchestras in the West Country.  The EPC are regular performers at the Cathedral, and like the ESO, draw on local talented performers.

The Devon connection is further exemplified by the four soloists for the evening who also have their roots in Devon.

The programme for the evening features Beethoven’s major work, The Choral Symphony (the 9th) which includes the magnificent ‘Ode to Joy’ as the final movement.

Brigadier Christopher Lunn from the ABF The Soldiers' Charity said today, “We are absolutely delighted that the organisers of the concert have chosen to support our work in Devon which provides help for many serving and retired soldiers and their families whenever it is needed.”

A limited number of tickets are still available at Exeter Cathedral box office by phone 01392 285983, in person or on line www.exeter-cathedral.org.uk/boxoffice
