Sidmouth Town Band |
On Saturday 17th August, flags will be flying and patriotic songs resounding as Sidmouth Town Band host their 8th Last Night of the Proms concert at the Connaught Gardens at 7.30pm.
This year, the band will be joined by world-famous tuba star, Steve Sykes. Steve has been described as one of the best soloists to emerge from the British brass scene, and he certainly wowed the band during a rehearsal this week with his stunning sound and technical brilliance. If you have never heard a tuba star before, then this really is an opportunity not to be missed. Steve performs all over the world, and so the band are honoured that he has accepted the invitation to perform in Sidmouth.
Soprano soloist, Val Howels, will once again be leading the audience through the patriotic numbers, including "Rule Britannia" and "Jerusalem", as well as performing an entertaining solo item with the band in the first half!
Popular local figure Graham Liverton will be compèring the concert, and it promises to be another entertaining and memorable evening.
Tickets are £5, and can be purchased at the Tourist Information Office, or from the band at their regular Sunday concert at the Gardens on Sunday. They will also be available on the gate. Audience members are encouraged to bring chairs, flags and picnics, and any other 'Proms' apparel, to really get into the party mood!
If weather conditions prevent the outdoor event going ahead, the concert will take place in the Parish church. However, a bit of drizzle won't dampen spirits, so do come prepared with warm and waterproof clothing.
