GRAND BAROQUE
FIRST UK PERFORMANCES
IN EXETER CATHEDRAL
Friday August 30th 7.30pm

GRAND BAROQUE is a tremendously adventurous project
and has attracted much interest among the early music fraternity.
The professional musicians involved are second to none
and all are looking forward to this unique event.
After all, there can only be one first performance
of each these choral works in the UK,
and this is it!

The supporting programme features items
by each of the participating instrumental ensembles.

MUSICAL DIRECTOR

JanJoost van Elburg

 JanJoost van Elburg has established a reputation
for incomparable preparation and direction of his performers
throughout Europe and the UK.
He has been principal musical director
of Blackdowns Early Music Projects since 2004
- a recent reviewer likens his concerts to the equivalent of
‘a musical journey in a Rolls Royce’.
He lives in Amsterdam, where he directs the Lelikoor Choir.
In the UK he directs the Bartholomew Consort in Oxford.
JanJoost conducts 'Lacock Courses'
in UK, Spain, Italy, Portugal and Cyprus
He is president of the Reading Bach Choir.

They perform on natural trumpets
without the aid of ‘modern’ vent-holes
to give true voice to their instruments' natural harmonics.
This is their debut with The English Cornett and Sackbut Ensemble and The Monteverdi String Band
and their first live UK accompaniment
for voices with these instruments.

(the world's foremost player and teacher of natural trumpet).

The choir of BLACKDOWNS EARLY MUSIC PROJECTS
whose concerts have become a mainstream event in the calendar
for lovers of renaissance or baroque choral repertoire
provide the choral contribution to the concert.
They are all experienced singers.
They are invited to work on programmes
of ‘new’ infrequently heard early music.
They come together from all over the UK and Europe
to work towards each public concert,
frequently accompanied by period instrumentalists.
