PRESS RELEASE: EXETER IGNITE FESTIVAL

3RD STAGE DANCE COMPANY PRESENTS PIANO MOVES

THE CYGNET THEATRE
 4TH JUNE, 7PM
5TH JUNE, 8.30PM

3rd Stage Dance Company present extracts from their project, Piano Moves which shows short studies of choreography to solo piano music. The choreography is inspired by contemporary composition and features music by Ed Scolding. Ashley James Turner and William Bower, three very influential modern day composers, as well as several more compositions from Debussy, Schumman, Sculthorpe and Tiersen. The dancing will be contemporary based with a classical twist showing romance, troubles and pure interpretations.

The studies in Piano Moves contain a loose narrative which draws in the audience giving everybody something to be able to identify with; watching feels comfortable as you observe beautiful lines, shapes and patterns. The piano music comes to life through the movement of miniature stories on the stage. The dancers are delighted and honoured to have Bethan Scolding, concert pianist, play the piano live for their performance.

The dancers come from a variety of backgrounds including Rambert, London Contemporary and Royal Ballet. All dancers bring different choreography to the stage and audiences report their joy in watching such experienced dancers adding that there is always 'something for everyone to enjoy and appreciate'. There is always a slight narrative that people can read into using their own life experiences as a guide, or just sit back and enjoy the lines, shapes, patterns and musical phrasing through movement.

Bethan Scolding is an award-winning classical pianist who performs across the UK as a concert soloist, accompanist and chamber musician. She performs music from the classical to contemporary, including premieres of new works, improvisations and original live accompaniments for silent film.

"Every single person and I mean everyone said they wanted to see more and that this shouldn't be a one off performance. That says it all! .......the people of Britain deserve to see this show."

"I thought Piano Moves was so wonderful. Really special. You and your
company did a beautiful job. I think the world needs more show like yours."
