Greetings!
Re: Exeter Alternative Theatre - A DARK VICTORIAN CABARET
1889 saw the re-opening of the Exeter Theatre Royal after the tragic fire two years earlier. This Halloween, Exeter Alternative Theatre (EAT) presents a re-imagining of that auspicious night 123 years ago with an absinthe-laced cocktail of theatre, cabaret and burlesque in a Halloween Spectacular!
Expect a rollercoaster ride of frights and frolics as we bring a slice of yesteryear to the stage with EAT's inimitable style.
With brand new writing from our members specially commissioned for this production, including a short comic play ‘Before Dracula’ about author Bram Stoker’s visit to Exeter (he actually attended the Theatre Royal’s opening night) and a potential suspect in the 1888 Whitechapel murder case,
incarcerated in the Exeter Lunatic Asylum is interrogated in ‘And Then There Was One’.
Genuine cabaret acts will add to the evening’s entertainment: a Phantom Juggler takes to the stage to exhibit his extraordinary skills; award winning Venus Noir will be performing a show placed 1st runner up in this year’s ‘Best British Burlesque Female Crown’ at the London Burlesque Festival Week; The Flaming Feathers, a professional burlesque & cabaret troupe will perform the can-can plus a new dance specially choreographed for this show and Lilly Laudanum, a burlesque artiste whose playful parodies and gory stories are anything but routine, performs as Queen Victoria, as you've
never seen her before!
Add to this a touch of music hall glamour, a surprisingly life-like doll and a theatrical interpretation of a Victorian Séance, all presided over by a sinister Master of Ceremonies, and our audiences are guaranteed an unforgettable experience.
Welcome to Halloween EAT style...
