In an extraordinary clash between colleagues and fellow clarinettists, Chris Caldwell and his wife Susie Hodder-Williams put on an exciting early evening recital on the same evening as Chris Gradwell's 'Music Deco' evening in Sidmouth (see details).

To celebrate the opening of Deborah Wood's new 'Topsham Art Room' at the former goldsmith's warehouse on Topsham Strand, and the launch of an exhibition of work by Peter Thursby, Chris C. and Susie brought their 'Music on the Edge' to the Art Room.

The recital opened with the duo's familiar baroque sound - Agnus Dei. There was also modern music - Heitor Villa-Lobos (1940s), Stephen Goss (twenty first century). The baroque theme was maintained with a glorious Bach Partita played in full and a Bach Sarabande back to back more Bach inspired music by Villa Lobos.

Deborah Wood, the gallery owner, provided her usual fabulous food and drink - and of course the exciting exhibition of work by Peter Thursby (a rather poignant memorial exhibition, as Peter died only last year).

Chris and Susie went straight from Topsham to bookings in the USA, but they will soon be performing in the UK again - Gloucestershire and West Sussex in November. Surely it can't be long before we see them in Devon again - more 'Music in the Art Room' perhaps?
