Musical Director’s Swan Song
The Exeter
Bach Society choir, conducted by David Davies, will perform a concert entitled ‘Music
in May’ at 7 pm on Saturday, 23 May, in the Exeter University Chapel. Sadly
this will be the last time that David will conduct an EBS concert as their
Musical Director because he is leaving owing to other commitments at the
Cathedral, where he at present Assistant Director of Music.
‘Music in
May’ is the last and the least formal of the Exeter Bach Society’s season of
concerts and includes a variety of works, performed by the choir and soloists.
The programme includes Handel’s ‘Ode for Queen Ann’s Birthday’, some Bruckner
motets, madrigals and other popular pieces, perfect for a summer’s evening.
Also popular are the three soloists - Heloise West (soprano), Michael Graham
(tenor) and Matthew Cann (bass), all popular singers, especially well-known
locally.
The works to
be performed are:
Locus iste – Bruckner
Tota pulchra es - Bruckner (Michael
Graham - tenor)
Ode for Queen Anne - Handel
Overture to Radamisto - Handel
Never weather beaten sail - Campion
Il est bel et bon - Passereau
All in the April evening - Roberton
Vado ma dove - Mozart (Heloise West -
soprano)
Geist der Wahrheit - Mozart
Un bacio di mano - Mozart (Matthew Cann
- bass)
Down in a valley - Wilbye
Deus Abraham - Saint-Saens
Der Tanz - Schubert
