Exeter flautist Ruth Molins gave a delightful interview this morning on 'Classical Journey'.

The Piazzolla Duo
Ruth Avis and Clive Betts
We heard recordings of Ruth playing at some of her many concerts:

'Bachianas Brasileiras' by Heitor Villa-Lobos,
with Exeter guitarist Clive Betts.

'Largo e dolce' from Bach's B minor Sonata,
with CBSO pianist James Keefe

A Lunchtime Concert

We also finished with a duet by Ruth and James:
'Canzone' by Samuel Barber

The special feature was a live performance by Ruth of music by American composer Michael Colquhoun from Buffalo, New York State.

'Speshal Birds' and 'Framing the Silence'

These and other compositions by Michael Colquhoun are available, either as manuscript or recordings, from Michael's website:

We also heard one of the pieces Ruth will be playing with pianist Rebecca Willson as part of their lunchtime concert at Glenorchy United Reformed Church in Exmouth on Wednesday 3rd April.

'Suite Paysanne Hongroise' by Béla Bartók

Earlier in the show we also heard the Albinoni's 'Oboe Concerto in B minor', which will be played by the Exeter Symphony Orchestra (including flautist Ruth Molins) and oboe soloist Althea Talbot-Howard at their concert at St David's Church this Saturday. At that concert, Althea will also play cor anglais in the ESO's performance of James MacMillan's "The World's Ransoming".

CELLO+FLUTE = 'Festive Flute'

Although we did not have any suitable recordings, there was time to mention Ruth's forthcoming concert with  her husband, jazz guitarist Jesse Molins, and bass-player Al Swainger. They will be playing exciting Latin and French jazz in a lunchtime concert at the Exmouth Music Festival - Wednesday 29th May at Exmouth Library.

Full details on the concerts website - or on the special post about Ruth Molins herself.

Many thanks to Ruth for a very special morning of music!
