On Thursday 1 March EMG Symphony Orchestra will once more be opening the rehearsal room doors, offering anyone with an interest in music the opportunity to go "behind the scenes" and see how a large amateur symphony orchestra prepares for a concert. This will provide an opportunity not only to meet the players but also to sit amongst the orchestra during the rehearsal and experience the music from the players' perspective as the orchestra rehearses for its spring concert.
The open rehearsal is a free event and is particularly aimed at children and young people who are learning an orchestral instrument. More advanced players (grade 6 standard and above), both children and adults, are invited to bring their instrument and join in with the rehearsal. The rehearsal will focus on "Nimrod" from Elgar's Enigma Variations as well as "Mars" and "Jupiter" from Holst's Planets Suite, and will also be preparation for the Music Nation: Olympic Rings event. This event will take place at Exeter University in the Great Hall on Sunday 4 March as part of the BBC's Music Nation Day.
The open rehearsal will take place at 7.30pm on Thursday 1 March at St Peter's School, Quarry Lane, Exeter, EX2 5AP. The orchestra asks that all under-16s are accompanied by an adult.
