Classical Journey Tuesday 6 December

Ruth Avis - Flute

This Tuesday Exeter flautist Ruth Avis will be in the studio to discuss her forthcoming concerts. She will also play us a selection of her incredibly beautiful flute music. A Telemann Fantasia has been requested, and Ruth will provide - live in the Phonic FM studio.

We can also hear the beautiful Bach 'Siciliana' which she played on Sunday at Cullompton with Hilary Boxer. (That concert is repeated at Bicton at lunchtime on Wednesday - see previous post for details.) We are also hoping that Hilary Boxer will join us and add ’cello extracts from that wonderful concert.

We can also hear Ruth play the alto flute - music by Graham Fitkin. A 'Classical Journey' favourite, 'Orange Dawn' by Ian Clarke has also been requested - Ruth Avis with pianist James Keefe, sublime.

Ruth is also appearing with Rebecca Willson in the second 'Nonclassical' concert at the Bikeshed on Sunday evening. (The first concert was a sell-out success.) Tune in to hear more.

And in the new year Ruth will be preparing a concert with the 'Force Five Wind Quintet', to take place at Southernhay Church on the evening of Friday 13th January 2012. 'Cellist Carol Galton will be joining the quintet (as pianist) for a concert called 'Wind, Sea and Sextet!'. We can hear Ruth play 'Cantilena' by Francis Poulenc to give us an idea of what to expect.
