The Royal Albert Memorial Museum’s Development Trust is delighted to be hosting a screening of ‘Phantom of the Opera’, the 1925 silent movie with a harp score composed and performed live by international harpist, Elizabeth-Jane Baldry. The event is taking place in Gallery 20 on Thursday 12th November. Doors open at 6pm with the film starting at 7pm promptly.
A visually
astonishing film which shocked audiences across the world on its release, some
patrons even fainted at the terrifying moment when Christine rips off the
phantom’s mask!
Film Critic,
Anthony Davies, commenting on Elizabeth-Jane’s score said: "The music and
its playing were daring and inventive, and the great round of applause that she
received at the end of the performance was testament to how much Elizabeth-Jane
had enhanced people’s enjoyment of this silent master, with her varied layers
of interpretation, and her witty and inventive performance.”
Elizabeth Jane commented: “Having played my harp last year to the
1922 silent film, ‘Nosferatu’, it is a real treat to be playing at RAMM again.
It’s such an atmospheric venue in which to watch this extraordinary film. The
acoustics are fantastic and it’s thrilling to be playing right in the heart of Exeter
