Roger Fordham's Organ and Piano Recital at Glenorchy Wednesday 30 January 2013 - a report by Peter Johnstone

Roger Fordham
organist and pianist

We had a splendid recital of organ and piano music introduced in a witty and informed manner by blind recitalist Roger Fordham last Wednesday lunchtime at Glenorchy Church.

He played two major organ works by J.S.Bach, the Preludes and Fugues in C minor and C major BWV 546 and 547, with great panache.

He then moved to the piano and played very expressively Haydn's Sonata in E flat major No.1 (which he explained was a very late work though Haydn's quirky numbering suggests it's early).

He finished by playing beautifully Chopin's Nocturnes in B flat minor Op 9 No.1 and Op 15 No .1.

As an encore he played Coates "Calling all workers", which he had learned from listening to a CD.

His perfomance was warmly received by the audience.

With good wishes,

Peter Johnstone.
