'The Pirates of Penzance'

11am Pirates of Penzance
Baritone Charles Hughes will join us to discuss the new production by the University Gilbert & Sullivan Society - "The Pirates of Penzance" which opens at the Northcott Theatre tonight.

11.30am Richard Alston Dance Company
Richard Alston himself will be joining the programme to discuss his dance programme which opens at the Northcott later in February.

Richard was choreographer for 'London Contemporary Dance' at 'The Place' in Bloomsbury until 1972, when he founded the first independent UK dance company 'Strider'. After further study at Merce Cunningham Dance Studio in New York he was choreographer at Ballet Rambert from 1980-92, becoming Artistic Director. He returned in 2001 to choreograph "Unrest" for the 75th anniversary of Ballet Rambert.

During the 90s Richard took on several commissions for classical ballets and dance evenings. In 1994 he became Artistic Director of 'The Place' and founded the Richard Alston Dance Company.

Last year the company were here to perform dance inspired by the music of Mozart, Britten, and singer/songwriter Hoagy Carmichael. on 26th February this year they will be back with more exciting choreography by Richard Alston.
